The OUSA Kayak Racing Club is very active for its size due to the enthusiastic nature of our members and dedicated coaches. Check out our upcoming races, events and training sessions. facebook

Winter Training Times (as of 1st June 2017)

All regular training sessions take place at the kayak club. Check the club Facebook page for updates and cancellations.

Please arrive 20-30 minutes early to do a warm up and stretch and be ready to get onto the water at the times above. Early morning sessions on Monday and Wednesday go ahead whatever the weather but will be land based if the weather is rough.

The Winter Series

The series consists of seven races (one each month) and are sponsored by Watercooled Sports. All paddlers are welcome. There will also be courses for Stand up Paddle Board, novice kayakers and Waka Ama. Entry is $5 per person and PFDs are compulsory.

Regattas and Training Camps

South Island Sprint Kayak Championships (30th September - 1st October) Lake Ruataniwha

This will be the third annual South Island Champs where South Island clubs will vie for the coveted South Island Trophy. Incorporating the South Island School Championships. Accommodation will be at the Rowing Centre on Lake Ruataniwha and meals are provided. This is one of the few opportunities for us in the year to participate in a sprint regatta, so come along to show your support so that we can get more events like this in the South Island in the future. Open to all abilities and with divisional style races (rather than age groups/genders). To share transport talk with Coach Brendan O'Neill. For information about the regatta visit CRNZ.

Blue Lakes 1

Blue Lakes 1 kicks off the national canoe sprint events for the season. Saturday 14th October 2017, Rotorua.

Blue Lakes 2

Blue Lakes 2 is the second of the national canoe sprint regattas. Saturday 2nd December 2017, Rotorua.

NZCT Canoe Sprint National Championships

OUSA KRC will be sending a team to the National Canoe Sprint Champs on Friday the 23rd of February 2018. Talk with coach Brendan if you are interested in participating.

Other Races

The Brass Monkey

11th June and 18th June 2017. Paddle down the Waimakariri River. More info.

Southern Lakes Multisport Club Winter Series

11th June (Frankton), 25th June (Cromwell), 9th July (Wanaka) and 30th July (Alexandra). More info.

White Island Race (Labour Weekend, October)

A 5km paddle from St. Clair Beach around White Island and back. Open to qualified surf lifeguards paddling non-powered craft. For more info visit SCSLSC.

The Salmon Run (14th October 2017)

A 36km road bike ride, 14km kayak down the braided Rakaia river and an 11.5km run through the riverbed and farmland. Participants must have their grade 2 certificate.

Waimak Classic (9th December 2017)

A 70km paddle down the Waimakariri River along the C2C course. Participants must have their grade 2 certificate.

Clutha Classic (28th December 2017)

A 48km paddle from Lake Wanaka to the Lindis River. Grade 2 certificate compulsory. For more info visit SLMSC.
